I swear to god liberals on tv sound stupid with "we shouldn't have gone to iraq in the first place" and people in my real life they say the same stupid thing,

and then you got conservatives with "well bill clinton pardoned his brother"

Politicians mudsling, their operatives go on tv and radio and send out these ridiculous emails that are just filled with junk.

---

The Senate and House don't debate, they meet with the lobbysts and decide before the bill is introduced if they'll vote for it or not.

---

Why is America being dumbed down? When did this stupid game of liberal/conservative good, the other guy whose conservative/liberal is bad.

Senior citizens have to cut their pills in half, I don't care if your conservative or liberal wouldn't you want a solution to that problem?

Do we as an America even recognize that this is a problem?

Go ahead liberals, slam me as bad conservative. And conservatives, go ahead and slam me as bad liberal.

Label-wars continue

i trace the phenomenon back to the dumbing down of American schools.

Back in the 'good old days', a student was expected to actually demonstrate that s/he could think, write, and speak clearly -- or flunk out.

My grandfather dropped out of school [according to family lore] in about 1906 at age 11. He went to work in the family store and had no formal education afterward. Yet, I recall him re-reading the Complete Works of William Shakespeare after he'd long been retired [he was about 80 then].

Alas, with the dumbed down schools, most HS 'graduates' can't read Shakespeare.

This is a good question. I think really TV is to blame. We lost our statesmen and gained pretty boy actors. Do you think Lincoln could've won today? I doubt it. He was unattractive really and when is the last time we had a really unattractive president? They only speak from scripts (or get into trouble when they don't). Plus EVERYTHING is recorded and thus compared and made fun of.

When did it happen? When the pols noticed the power of TV, realized the time limitations due to the cost of air time, and saw that jingles were an advertising boon.

Clinton was the master of the sound bites and it blew up from there.
Both sides pick it up and ran with it.

When FDR took to the radio waves to promise the American people everything they thought they wanted. Nothing but empty promises, empty rhetoric, and super-rich politicians since then.
