I want to find a list of old coins from around the world, to see if they are of value.

You could look at the Krause Catalogue of World Coins.

There are various editions; pre-1900, post-1900, post-2001, etc. But the listings are extremely comprehensive:

Then, of course - you could have the coins professionally graded - this link should help : http://www.pcgs.com/prices/

Or check out or post to one of the many coin collecting forums, i.e. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/

Have fun!

You are talking a lot of dollars for the Krause/Mishler Standard Catalogs of World coins. I know for I have all 5 volumes. There are no web sites to help you, do to the great amount of world coins that have been minted over the centuries. It would have to be a huge site and a lot of work done. No one would do that for free anyway. One other thing just because a coin is silver colored does not mean it is silver. If you have coins that are dated during world war II or earlier they are worth checking as well as modern coins that are as large as our old silver dollars. Other than that few collect modern low denomination world coinage so there is no market. Maybe you can find a coin club near by and they can help you or a world coin dealer. U.S. coin dealers know little about world coin and would not give a fair value. If I can be of further help email me here.

Go to your local library. Most all libraries now have copies of the Krause catalog at least for coins since 1900. A local coin dealer (listed in your phone book) may also let you look in his books. He definitely will give you a bid on the coins.
