Seven has been considered a lucky and even spiritial nember since ancient times. We have the Seven seas; Seven wonders of the world; Seven Voages of Sinbad; seven colors to the rainbow; etc.
A new list of wonders is being complied even as I write this.

There is only one of the 'ancient 7 Wonders of the World left...which is the great 'pyramid' [a later Greek word]. The ancient Egyptians called this an 'Akhet/akht, which translates to 'horizon'. It is associated with their creation story, which includes a mound of earth, (an akht/or horizon), thought to have risen from Nun, (chaos), thought to have been the ocean or sea, originally.
One can't really analyze the 7 Wonders, and the number '7' seems to have been, in ancient times one of several 'magic' numbers. The reasons are unknown, although many have attempted to answer that mysterious question. The other seems to be '3', but again...no reason or proof of any reason has yet been found to explain why.

All but one of the original wonders of the world have since been destroyed. They called that because like the others said, seven is a magical, lucky number, and they're called the world wonders because they were/are in various places around the globe.

I don't think they'll have another vote for this anytime in the foreseeable future. Many people already disclaim the ones that were picked, because they voted for something else.

When the original 7 were picked, there wasn't as much choice as there is now, as architecture was still in it's baby shoes (as they say in my country).

It is that the orginal list of the wonders of the world had seven locations listed.
The voting for the new seven wonders of the world is taking place now and will be announced this fall.

OK...they voted (even I did) for the new 7 wonders of the world. Doesn't that kind of diminish the original 7 wonders?

Well, as far as ancient wonders go, if you discover the 8th, I'm sure they'll accept it. Maybe if there were 8 ancient wonders, there would be 8 modern wonders too. (Following trend and all that.) Or maybe they chose seven because it's my favorite number. No? You don't think so? Oh well.

The only surviving list contained just Seven candidates. So that is what We have gone by. There could have been ten, or even more. Just as there could have been "The Twenty Commandments". We just work with what We have, and that is it.
