Here's a couple of great, can't-put-'em-down reads:
Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
This is a great book, all about the building of a cathedral over the generations. I know that doesn't sound all that exciting, but it's really amazing.
Motherless Brooklyn by Johnathan Lethem
Great, funny, intriguing mystery told in the first person by a thug/ private eye with Tourrette's Syndrome. No, really.
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
If you've never read it, do. I won't attempt to explain it here, but let me put it this way: I only wish I could read it again for the first time. Have a great summer!

My favorite fiction book is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (her other stuff is also a lot of fun). I'm also a fan of Thomas Hardy (especially A Pair of Blue Eyes), Frank Peretti (especially The Visitation), and Leo Tolstoy (especially Anna Karenina...yes it is long, but so worth it!). A book that I enjoy reading everyday that I would also recommend is the Bible, especially the New Testament (a good starting point is John, if you're curious).

Diana Gabaldon - Outlander - this is a series that is mainly of interest to women. It has romance and history, and it's well written. You WILL fall in love with the main character.
Stephen King.- He gets a rap from many people for writing horror and gory novels. His novels can be graphic at times (some more than others), but in my opinion he is THE best published writer of our time. Not only are his stories inventive, but his language is just beautiful. I can't read a book of his and not fall in love with the characters, they become so real.
The Dark Tower series are his best I think.

Depends on what you are in to, lol...
Nora Roberts is an excellent romance author who mixes mystery, adventure, and real plot without porn into her books. Anything by her is the perfect time killer and always an indulgence. Her books usually come in a trilogy, so the story goes on and on!
Dean Koontz is also an excellent artist, specializing in mystery, thrillers, and horror. I have many favorites by him. Check out "One Door Away From Heaven", and the "Odd Thomas" series.
Steven King is always an interesting read. His gift with language always make chills go up my spine... I just finished "Lisey's Story"--which started slow, but ended up intense. SOWISA, baby.
Other than than, if you are into fantasy, check out anything by Mercedes Lackey.

I have three-
Misery- by Stephen King. I thinks its a great thriller and its been my all-time favorite by him.
Sir Apropos of Nothing- by Peter David. Its a rather comical and witty fantasy where the sidekick accidently defoils the hero and must take over in his place.
The Harry Potter series- great reading in general.
