Now strange as it may seem, my new grandson's name is ATTILLA. Yes, ATTILLA. ATTILA (pronounce AT-illa) is a very well known Hungarian name of strength and nobility. Both my daughter and her husband are hungarian by heritage. They call him 'tilly'......

Other times it's not the first name which is the problem but a combination of the two. Here are REAL names which I have known people, or gleaned from records, phone books, etc.

Tondelayo Teppefessor
Turalura Moskowitz
Penny Nickel
Candy Kane
Rock, and his brothers Clay and Sandy (Dad was a geologist)

Back in the 50's the comedy team of Martin and Lewis used the name MELVIN as a constant run on joke. In the middle of a sketch, a person would say their name is Melvin and the two would look into the camera and grimace as they say "MELVIN??" More than one person grew up with that name saying that the joke had caused them many years of taunts.

My middle name is Marvin, and may years ago I would have said NO to any one named Marvin, but I"ve grown into it and now (thanks to a cartoon character with lots of attitude) I find it most endearing.

One of my brothers has the middle name of Adolph. My father's middle name is Herman. These are two that I would NEVER use! But besides that: Ralph, Larry/Lawrence, Fred, Ronald (although the shortened Ron is not bad), Donald/Don/Donnie, Leonard, Roy, Elroy, Homer, Kurt, etc....there are more not so common that I also wouldn't consider. For girls: Sharon, Cindy, Tammy and the cutesy more 'popular' names. I actually despised my parents for years for giving me the name Brandy, but have learned to deal with it.

Nothing with SHA, QUA or LA in it. Not Espen after ESPN the sports channel (YES PEOPLE HAVE NAMED THEIR KIDS THIS) and not Star Scream, Soundwave, Dweezle or Moon Unit. Optimus Prime Jenkins......nah! Not Maximus or Thor or Apollo either.
