Hello,

Attila was actually born into a big Empire which would have steched from the Russian steppes through Eastern Europe into modern Germany today and from the Danube to the Baltic Sea. Please see map:

No one knows o recorded exactly what part of that Empire in Europe he came from.

Attila (406 – 453), also known as Attila the Hun or the Scourge of God was Khan of the Hun people from 434 until his death. He was leader of the Hunnic Empire which stretched from the Netherlands to the Ural River and from the Danube River to the Baltic Sea The origin of the European Huns has been the subject of debate for centuries; however it can be said with general agreement that they were a confederation of Central Asian and European tribes, many of them horse nomads. Their united power appeared or began to form in Europe in the 4th century. They achieved military superiority over their neighbours (most of them highly cultured and civilized) by their readiness for combat, unusual mobility, and weapons including the composite bow.

Present day Hungary, though there is little connection between the Huns and the modern Hungarians.
Most of Atilla's soldiers were infantry. Judging from the resources of the Hungarian Plain and the number of remounts his forces would have needed, he couldn't have had more than 15,000 cavalry at any one time.
