Yes it really happened.

Return flights to the Moon are just a little to expensive for most of us to purchase.

you're kidding right?

We have been to the moon over a half dozen times since then... eveyone lost interest though, so NASA lost funding and couldn't afford to keep going

Flew out and around the Moon, but did not land on the Moon:
Apollo 8 lunar orbiter, December 21, 1968, astronauts Borman, Lovell, Anders
Apollo 10 lunar orbiter, May 18, 1969, astronauts Stafford, Young, Cernan
Apollo 13 aborted lunar landing mission, April 11, 1970, astronauts Lovell, Haise, Swigert

Flew to the Moon and landed:
Apollo 11 lunar landing mission, July 16, 1969, astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin, Collins
Apollo 12 lunar landing mission, November 14, 1969, astronauts Conrad, Bean, Gordon
Apollo 14 lunar landing mission, January 31, 1971, astronauts Shepard, Mitchell, Roosa
Apollo 15 lunar landing mission, July 26, 1971, astronauts Scott, Irwin, Worden
Apollo 16 lunar landing mission, April 16, 1972, astronauts Young, Duke, Mattingly
Apollo 17 lunar landing mission, December 7, 1972, astronauts Cernan, Schmitt, Evans

As you can read from the webpage below, we are more focused on Mars now. Potential water means potential past and future life there!

We really did go 40 years ago and we have not been back because it costs too much money and there isn't any important reason to go there.

oh my god. too many people watch way too much xfiles. yes we did go to the moon.

NASA made it boring, so people lost interest (along with watergate, the vietnam war, and the civil rights movement).

we haven't gone back because of several reasons.

stop watching the x files, and drinking your kool aid and actually look it up.

Because Moon is just so boring....plus you can't build a club there without creating an oxygen atmosphere, so people just think its lame..

Are you willing to volunteer...one thing not many people wants to go there with all the risk that could go wrong....space travel has been proven in history to go in a bang killing all the astronauts right

Second it is not cheap ....wouldn't the money invested in making two or three trips to the moon more worthed if given to save some hungry country or save the world project....why not take of what we have in hand firts rather reaching out for something that is still far fetched
