they will make a sound intermittingly... some chirp some buzz but only for a second... its a good idea to change the batteries every 6 months...

mine just does a constant beeping noise like the smoke alarms do. But some may be different. Call your alarm company and chek. It may mean that something isn't locked, etc.Or check the manual.

I never heard mine ring I spose they could most of the time the trouble light on the pad comes on

Most will give you an intermitent beep to signal a battery change.
