The highest bidder bid over£900 on my item and wants me to send it to nigeria...Ive heard about nigerian scams and replied to the bidder saying:
this is okay as long as you pay by paypal and there is none of the nigerian scams going on here...I will not wait for funds "held" until a tracking number is provided to you the funds must fully clear in paypal before the item will be posted.
When I have checked, confirmed and verified the transaction with paypal then I will send the phone out.
If you DO want it posting to Nigeria upon doing so you accept that I am not responsible or liable for any matter once the item is in the hands of the postoffice.
As soon as the item is posted you will receive the tracking number.
If you agree to my terms and conditions I will not charge you any extra for postage-just pay the amount as stated from ebay.
Please reply to confirm this is okay.
Thankyou.

I was going to phone paypal to verify the funds once they're paid...will this be okay?

If they actually pay, which I doubt they will given those conditions, that should be ok, so long as you check Paypal carefully to make sure the money has went in - don't rely on an email notification because they can falsify them. And make sure you send it tracked as you've said you will because otherwise they can say it wasn't received and paypal will go in their favour without proof of receipt.
I think the likelihood is, if they've paid £900 for it, is that it was a scam and they were relying on you being greedy and gullible! I don't think you'll get the money so you'll probably have to offer it to the 2nd highest bidder or relist the phone.

It would be nice to believe that there are honest people in Nigeria, but you have to be real careful. Are you selling a phone for $900? If so, something seems fishy. Sometimes the scam is that they send you funds, and the check doesn't clear for several days, then it bounces. Be careful. I'm not that familiar with Paypal. Does paypal have any resource to come back at you for the funds if they are not good?

scam scam scam
Even pay pal is not safe. These people are also known for there paypal phishing scams. You may still be ripped off.
Check and see if the buyers account is listed by pay pal as being in nigeria if he is listed by paypal as living in any other country then nigeria then notify pay pal.
it is a stolen paypal account number.

When you list on ebay POST that you do not sell out side your own country without going through a escrow service.
Then if the buyer tells you of a escrow service site that he wants to use. Check it by typing the name of the escrow service into google and see if it has the same ip as the escrow service site he gave you . This will get about 99.99 % of the scammers as they will send you to a fraudulent escrow service site.

I HAD ONE THAT EVEN SET UP WITH FEDEX TO PICK UP THE IDEM AFTER HE USED A FRAUDULENT ESCROW SITE. HE EVEN PAYED FEDEX.
I SHIPPED HIM A BRICK.
BOY WAS HE MAD.

No ,No ,No, please steer clear of Nigerian bidders,it's almost certainly a scam,I've sold laptops on eBay and when ever I got a Nigerian bidder I deleted the bid,I've had emails sent via ask the seller a question ,offering me silly money for something only worth a couple of hundred quid, don't do it,it will only end up costing you time and money.

Hiya, this is definately a scam, please DO NOT believe anything they say, why do you think they are willing to pay so much for the phone? its dodgy, i had the same thing happen to me, they paid by paypal and eveything, but they said i must post the item immediately. Thankfully i didnt and the money was taken out of my paypal account a few days later.
Thay are trying to scam you. Its not even worth the risk.
PLEASE DONT BELIEVE THEM.

Same exact thing happened to me! I reported than to ebay and immediately relisted my item. Ebay will pay back your listing fees in like seven days. Make sure you put on your listing no international shipping and block those with less than 1 feedback. Hope this helps :)

a lot of scammers from Nigeria sadly infest sites.

I would re-list it and on all auctions state

"you do not ship to Nigeria." so do not bid if your wanting items to be shipped there.

no cash first.. no item.. simple as =)

only deal with payments from paypal also..

Unfortunately, given the situation with the 419 scams, I think this is the only way to handle it. Don't back down.

Sounds fine to me. I think you are right being very careful having any dealings that involve money and Nigeria.
