Because of my volunteer work for a charity, I go to quite a few funerals each year. Black is not the only color you can wear at a funeral anymore. In fact, the colors run the entire gambit.
So, first, do not think that black is the only color your can wear.
Secondly, I think that halter dress is good, but I would put a wrap or something over your bare shoulders to make it a bit less revealing.
Third, Funerals are for the living, not the person who died. Death is but a door we all must pass through on our way to everlasting life. So, go to the funeral with respect to the family, and dress as you might go to an important job interview.
I hope this helps.

I think what you need to do is ask someone connected with planning the service-- maybe a female inlaw, the funeral director, etc. While some families are still very conservative (black dress, very "covered up"), other families are now taking the "Celebrate his/her life" approach, asking those who attend to wear spring colors, florals, etc. In either case, You'll still need to dress very conservatively: No halters, tube tops, mini skirts, etc., out of respect for both the family, and the person who died. We've attended a regrettable number of funerals in the past year or so, and, because of these two trends, have always felt safer calling and asking someone.

SS to hear that .... funeral's are always sad. If you really want to wear it then i say go ahead but dont' be disrespectful of the dead. Make sure nothings hanging out or showing. Wear an over coat , shawl or maybe even a lacey or crocheted top over it. What shoes you wear will also give the look to the dress , stay away from really high or flashy shoes. Good Luck !

i'm sorry about your loss. you're going to a funeral. there aren't going to be cute guys for you to flirt with, and (most likely) people won't have their eyes on you. you don't go to a funeral to make a statement... you're going to show remorse.
you have to wear black... obviously. wear black pants.... if you want to wear a skirt, it should come midcalf... anything shorter than that wouldn't work. as far as a shirt goes, wear a black button down. you shouldn't be showing too much leg or your shoulders. its disrespectful. stay away from open toed shoes... it too casual. but don't wear extremely high heels either. try a black flats.
oh, and even though it's tempting, DON'T ADD ANY COLOR. at my aunt's funeral last year, there was a girl who wore lots of red accessories with her outfit. it was outrageous. if you want to wear a belt, or funky socks, or earrings, or carry a bag, etc... keep it black.

THE HALTER TOP IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR A FUNERAL , MAYBE WITH A BLAZER ON TOP. TO BE SAFE WEAR SOMETHING THAT COVER YOUR SHOULDERS, NOTHING TO SEXY OR REVELING, IS A FUNERAL YOU DON'T WANT THE WRONG IMPRESSION.

That's fine if you wear a jacket or shawl - bare shoulders at a funeral is not on.
