Blame it on the horomones.
Some also have bad stomach cramps, and pain has been known to make people miserable.

Excellent Question.
I'm a girl and that still questions me.
For me I'm not angry during my period that's when I'm cooling off, it's leading up to my period because I can feel all the fluids, which makes you feel heavy and lethargic.
Well, a website states:
The causes of PMS are not clear. It is linked to the changing hormones during the menstrual cycle. Some women may be affected more than others by changing hormone levels during the menstrual cycle. Stress and emotional problems do not seem to cause PMS, but they may make it worse.

Diagnosis of PMS is usually based on your symptoms, when they occur, and how much they affect your life

It's as simple as this: pretend that someone just stuck you with a huge knife in your lower tummy area (intestines). Now think about that knife twisting constantly, making the pain intolerable but the stabber won't let you die.

That's why we're irritable. Not to mention the fact that while this is going on, you're asking us to get you a beer from the fridge.

Hormones fella, hormones. The same things that make many men arrogant twits.
That and the fact there may be pain and discomfort upsetting the woman. You've no idea fella, none at all.

If you have to ask you'll never know. Just accept it is so.
A lot of it is to do with PAIN and DISCOMFORT when the PAIN has paused (and before it starts again). Oh and hormones. Why do you think women of my mother's generation called it "the curse"?
Let me tell you, the memory never dies...

These are all good answers, hormones mostly. But, think of it this way, being kicked in the gonads multiple times/day for 5 days straight!

It's all about the hormones. Hormones really affect moods. So that's why. Take care.
