removed the top of engine to heli coil the spark plug their was no gasket. does anyboby know if their should be one and if so can I cut one from gasket paper? Cheers

That model does use a head gasket (as do all bikes).
No you cannot make one out of gasket paper.
Buy one from a Yamaha dealer - $3

typically, a head gasket is metalized ... not sure a paper type gasket would hold up to the pressure.

per this link there should be a gasket between the cylinder and the head.

maby a new or used head instead of
heli might be better., but definatly a gasket,
