I'm in a play set in that era and was wondering if you could help. I've already watched too many black and white films so I was hoping you could give me some made in the last decade but set in the golden era.

"Pleasantville" (Tobey McGuire) is set in the 50's, sort of. The plot involves two contemporary teenagers being magically zapped into a 50's soap where the emphasis is on the cliched apple pie image, and how these newcomers disrupt the place. Fantastic film.
What era is your play set in as there is such a huge difference between these decades?
"Far from Heaven" (Julianne Moore) is a pastiche of 50's melodrama (see Robert Sirk) That film's got more colour than you can shake a stick at.

I'm sure there are many, but the one that comes to mind is "The Man In The Plaid Suit" with Steve Martin. GREAT movie!
