Unless the government does not ensure that the Taj is well mentained as well as the surroundings as well as place where it is located ie. Agra the tourists will be dissapointed.
We have to learn from the other tourists places in the western countries. The manner in which it is mentained, all the fecelities they offer to the tourist, the way they project that place etc. For example when you visit the Eiffel Tower you are not only thrilled by seeing the structure but also at all the other fecilities and entertainment that is available at that place. They are able to attract the tourists because of all these extra goodies apart form the tower itself.
Now its the time for the government and specially for the people of Agra to groom themselves. They should make their city really clean and formost learn to behave friendly with the tourists instead of trying to fleece them.
If more tourists come not only the government but also the people of Agra stand to gain.

I think you meant a better upkeep(!).

All the media glare is gone now with weeks time from its announcement.

I don't think it is highly impossible if government is wide awake to the top tourist destination.

As much as there was a lot of internet mail/msg requests flooding for voting it to be no.1, so much mails/msg should ensure a forum is formed by the citizens to make it a grand success.

I have my doubts with the attitudes adopted by our Government for old monuments. Because there are most of the people in our country, who think "old is to go". When the new generation is ready to keep its parents in the Old Orphanages, what can we expect from the Government to do with such monuments. Only showing others we care doesn't help.
