In the recent forest fires thousands of wild animals have been burnt and the rest lost their habitat. Hunting those ones left alive and trying to survive, isn't it going to be a further disaster?

Hunting was a necessity in the previous centuries and may still be a necessity in very rural areas around the word.

But..

I can not believe people living in or around big cities need the meat from hunted animals in order to feed. They are doing it as a "sport" !!!!! and if that is considered a sport, then I hate sports!!

That is plain murder .

I don't accept any explanation or justification excuse otherwise.

It is done just to satisfy a basic instinct to kill and if a human can kill an animal just to satisfy this need, he may find the reason in his mind to kill another human as well.

If we keep on behaving that thoughtless and careless towards the nature, I am afraid, our children wont even be able to find a piece of wood bark to chew on in 100 years.

Sometimes it feels like we, humans have a plan to end the life in this word and working on the plan step by step with cold blood..

Unlike the users who answered already, I'm Greek and I'm aware of the horror we suffered with Parnitha, Pilion, Samos etc forest fires. Burnt deer, foxes, and other mammals, thousands of burnt birds and nests.
Even the grass and the grains that wild animals and birds are fed with have been burnt, apart from the fact that the surviving animals have no cover any more.
And I will not accept any "necessity for ballance" as the population of wild life species has been reduced dramatically during the last decades.
I will not accept as well any excuse about "need for food", as hunters can buy whatever necessary from a super market, apart from the fact that they spend fortunes for their weapons, ammunition and other accessories. We don't live some centuries ago that hunting could be a recourse of nutrition.

Yes, hunting must be forbidden for the mammals and birds which escaped the disaster to survive and get a chance to increase...

Yassou!

Hunting should be forbidden by law in the areas where fires were reported.

The species that survived should be kept under surveillance for a while to see how much their damaged habitat affected their evolution.

Only after everything is in balance with the animal species there, the authorities should decide whether they should restart the hunting program/seasons.

But i'm totally against hunting!

Hunting should definitely be forbidden, regardless of the recent fires. It is brutal, it is inhuman and it is pointless. And the hunting season is I think next month. Unfortunately, I believe that no greek government has the guts to endorse such a measure, hunters do vote unfortunately.

Yes, hunting must be forbidden for ever, not just for now. Humans have deprived them of their habitats: Forests burnt down, lakes polluted or dryed up, climate changes, pollution, and in addition what survives of these negative factors gets killed just for a "hobby".

Exactly, and unfortunately this is the reality. It has always happened, and it will be continued since the government dont take the appropriate punishments against them...But are they going to do it?
You can see also that they do it even if it nos burnt, the last nature parks they try to destroy them..In a fountain where a small fish in extinction is living in Rhodes, someone went to play with a motor boat...
Who cares about this life? They say it is a fish...Till when the lack of consciousness?

how can it be accepted to kill animals as a sport?it is murder, not a sport!
i do not believe the fairy tale that we have to kill them for a balance!nature has its own balance and always will!
man has ruined that balance,by ruining the natural habitats, polluting the water supplies and killing animals for*food*or for *style*for selfish women!
how can you wear somebody's mother?
hunting is just another name for murder, and this murdering must be stopped!

Hardly, hunting is a huge necessity. Too many Deer, small game animals (Rabit, Squirel etc) Bear. Are a problem. National wildlife agencies keep tallies on population of hunted animals and have in the past set limits on how many can be killed by hunters and have at times removed those limits depending on what current population is. There is no rational fear of hunted animals ever becomming extinct .. unless all hunters one day decide to ignore what current laws are and hunt down everything they see. This of corse is unrealistic, huge fines and penalties of hunting endangered spieces are a remarkable deterant.

YES. And forever. This is not a sport, this a crime against unprotected creatures by Rambos who try to prove their superiority and strenght with rifles and guns.
