I want to drop in a GM 572ci crate motor into my completely 100% stock 1970 Chevelle SS454. Will you guys help me out on this and tell me exactly what else I need to worry about (brakes, transmission, suspension, framework)?

The new 572 tall block motor is considerably lighter than the 454 because of the aluminum heads. The guy who said it was a dog hasen't heard, seen or driven one yet.

This motor ia a 70 Chevelle bolt in. I owned a new LS-6 450 hp. 454 from 1970 - 77. Take a serious look at the turbo hydro. 400 for an upgrade of MORE BEEF! Fresh Moog coils and urithane suspension bushiongs will complete your task. You'll have a 9 second car with 10 inch tires.

if it is 100% stock, dont put that 572 in there. your car is worth more the way it is now and you can build that 454 up quite alot. take that 454 to a engine shop, have them break it down and rebuild it. you will keep the car stock and you will have a powerful engine. if your going to race it, you have a good suspension if all your going to really do is straight runs, but if your going to race on alot of curves then you should probably get a better suspension. your tranny and rear end, i would change gear ratios to match the power curve of the motor (if origional you have a 4 speed manual). if you want your car to last long, drive it once and awhile and keep it stored in climate controlled place on blocks.

Sam--you have no idea what you are doin. Take the 454 down to the engine shop and let them fix it beyound your expectations. The 572 is a dog unless you take it to the engine shop and get it souped up. You don't have to do anything but put the 454 back in the car. the Car Remains completely stock. Put the 572 in and there goes restored and it is no longer worth what you think.

If there's a considerable weight difference, front coil springs may need to be upgraded. I was once the proud owner of a 70 Chevelle SS 454.Too bad about the 454 being replaced. Great car, great engine.
