some commercial are like short movie and some are a little work of art, every year the best ad get choose, last year it was the Guinness one, maybe you remember it, some guys drinking in a pub and starting going back trough era and evolution until they were just very basic species at the beginning of time; i don't generally like my program to be interrupted by a ad but when i watch sky movie i wish un least for one pause to get a drink or something. Publicity is the soul of business, i believe that and some well though (or right down annoying) ad has change the fate of entire company or brand name, it's likely to think big names don't need publicity as they are part of everyday life (coca cola), but in order to keep that position they have to come up with bigger and better idea all the time. i like a good made ad, or a good music video; some creative in the media can just produce a spectacular or clever or witty commercial without compromise to much like in a movie. Lots of creativity is involve and i like that! of course most of them are just crap but unlike movies even if the ad is bad if it's stuck and gets remember that the most important thing! as somebody already pointed out sometime we remember the ad but not the product, funny!!
