I have heard that the government has faced huge losses due to Prasar Bharati and hence is planning to levy tax on the public by charging annual fee of Rs 400 for anyone who has color tv and Rs 200 for anyone having B/W TV. What do you all think about this? Is it really worth it? Is Govt right in doing this? They are also going to introduce tax for private channels. Please comment!

Welcome to the world of tax and spend liberals my friend. Usually, if a service or product is heavily used by the public, it will be taxed. In the USA we are double and triple taxed on many items. Your only option is not to buy the products. If enough do that the company will go out of business and the government will no longer have a product to tax. Good luck.

I don't think it would be possible. There cannot be a checking mechanism for it.

The tax can be imposed on the product when it is bought but after that it would just not be posible.
