How does somebody attain happiness? What is happiness, is it that feeling you get when your blood alcohol level makes the fat girl in the black of the club look like Jessica Alba? Or is it the rush you get when you're skiing down the slopes at Sunshine?

The truth is, non of these are happiness, happiness is a state of mind; let me explain.

Think of your mood as a level, the lowest is depressed laying on your bed hugging your pillow listening to "boys to men", and the highest is extreme excitement blood pressure pounding no cares in the world, your happiness is a line that your set somewhere between there. Lets call this scale the "mood scale". Ofcourse you are going to feel happy when you are skiing or doing something fun like that, because it is a spike in your mood scale, but how long will that last? how do we attain permanent happiness. Well howabout I explain the problem first:

The problem is, that we've been "taught" happiness. If i ask you a question, and I said, "If you have a big house, beautiful spouse, a healthy boy and a girl, a nice car, a white picket fence, a good job, is that happiness?". Sounds pretty fantastic doesn't it? that sounds like happiness, but, analyze it a little more... You will never have the biggest house, or fastest car, or smartest girl, or most athletic boy, or perfect spouse, so as long as you measure your happiness with these things, you will never be happy.

The key is to change your standard. Set your bar, not lower, but in a different way. Someone is has faith in God, sets their goal in life to please God. If we make that our bar, that we have please God for the day, then everything else becomes bonus. Then it doesn't matter if your driving a benz or a hyundai, live in a mansion or a condo, everything that happens is a bonus. A hyudnai is a bonus so your happy, and benz is a bigger bonus, so your happy, either way you're still happy!

You decide your own happniess, it's where you set the bar yourself, being content guarantees your own happiness. That doesn't mean don't have ambition, this is where the ying yang comes in, you have amibition, limited by content, and content limited by ambition. But if you set your own happiness bar at something achievable, you will be guaranteeing your own happiness. --- I hope that made some sort of sense...

SPIRITUAL - Feeling good about yourself and the direction in which your life is moving. Discovering the esoteric purpose and meaning in your life.

MATERIAL - Obtaining a possession upon which your heart has been set for a long time, maybe one you have saved up money to buy.

FLEETING - not sure this can really be described, basically, it is any type of happiness which is brief in duration, for instance, passing a beautiful girl or a laughing toddler in the street, but not meeting them again.

DRUNKEN - a feeling of confidence and loss of inhibitions, which only comes after a few drinks.

BLISSFUL HAPPINESS - Similar to spiritual happiness. That wonderful feeling where you feel good about yourself, and you feel that your life is moving in marvellous ways, and that things are really happening for you. This feeling is very exciting.

Yes, I think happiness IS the answer to life. We all aim to be happy, and we feel fulfilled and contented when we ARE happy.

The answer to life, or the main 'goal' in life is to discover the true meaning and purpose for which you are on this planet, and that differs from person to person.

Is there life? Yes, you are living it now, and you will keep on living it until you have mastered all of the spiritual laws. You will keep on being reincarnated as various entities until this happens.

Is there a question? Yes, this site is full of them. That is a question in itself, and has an infinite number of answers.

Happiness is a past experience. All too often we can look back on a period of our lives and say "I was happy then", but at the time we did not necessarily feel 'happy'. Even when somebody says that they are in the present, they are merely equating emotive sensations to a word that corresponds to how they believe they should be feeling.

Aristotle believed that happiness only comes about through doing right action and leading a 'good' life (though what is 'good' is something for more debate). This performance of right action leading to happiness he called eudaimonia, and is achieved by taking the middle way in all of our actions and decisions, restraining our more base instincts in favour of logic and reason. He called this choice of action the Golden Mean, whereby we make the best choices not just for ourselves but for our family and community as well. In this way the search for eudaimonia results in increased happiness for all.

Happiness is contentment in every sense of the word. But happiness isnt necessarily the answer to life, life is exactly what you make it, whether that is happy, sad or indifferent. There is no question, take each day as it comes and live life to the full xx

I love aristotle's ideas about happiness. It goes something like this: every action we make is to go towards happiness. there are three ways to be happy -

1. material wealth - we work to make money to spend
2. honour - we do things so that others will like us for it
3. pleasure - doing things just because they are enjoyable, like sex

however none of these are true happiness, because they fade away into nothing after a while. The true way to be happy is to take the philosophic road, and live the morally righteous life.

Many philosophers believe happiness is the supreme "good" and is what most people strive to achieve through being virtuous. In other words, that being happy is the main purpose to everyone's life.

Can't say I agree or not.

No matter what you put before it, happiness means being content and "okay" with life as it stands. Happiness is not the answer to life, there is no answer because there is no legitimate question.

Yeah happy is a general term for being good...

I may add also of being happy in a Problem...

Happiness is the solution to loneliness, we need happy & lonely in this life...yes, there is life, there is problem, and there are answers to life...

It is all relevant.
What makes you happy may not make me happy.
You could be a sadist and like to hurt people for your pleasure, or you could be a saint and feel humbled and privileged to work in appalling conditions helping lepers.

So the only question is, do I feel happy doing this?
If you don't, then do something about it.
