The A/C in my car doesn't work well. (My car is 7 years old btw). Sometimes when I turn on the A/C it will work for a while but sometimes it doesn't. I'm guessing I'm running out of freon, but I don't remember ever having to replace freon before. How long does it take to run out (I don't think I use too much A/C, mainly only during the summer)? And how much does it cost to refill? Thanks.

the a/c system is aclosed system and no maintenance is required. if it is not working it could be a pressure switch or just a cooling fan not working correctly, so have it checked out by a competent a/c mechanic..the usual life span of a a/c system is anywhere from 7 years to 20, depending on the make of the car.. cheaper is less expensive is more .. the old models used to last forever..30 years..

You should never have to replace the freon, if everything is working correct. You have a small leak somewhere in the system. Most likely, a seal is bad. Replace the seal before you have the freon refilled. It all depends on what's wrong as to the cost of repair. You can pretty much count on a minimum of 100 for cost and the maximum will again depend on what is wrong with your car. good luck.

leaks on the pressure gauges low supposed to be max is 30 psi that s your full charge of freon never go overon the high side supposed be 150 psi, never go over and watch t has to be a very good r134a couplers...you charge it every 5 or six years, inside temp vent supposed to 45-60 if it goes 65 more or less you need a freon....vent temp in between every 5 years.so 5 years no touch, vent temp onl y.

My 1995 has never needed refrigerant recharge, or any a/c parts replaced. Have your system checked for leaks, clutch operation, belt tensions, etc, by a qualified professional.
