I have had abdominal pain on the left side where my ovary is located for about 3 and 1/2 months now and the doctors have done numerous ultrasounds, urine tests to check for infections, swabs, a ct-scan and just about everything you can think of to diagnose me with something causing my abdominal/pelvic pain. It started in early April 2007 when I was diagnosed with a 4.6cm haemorrhagic cyst which ended up rupturing in the first week of June 2007. I thought the pain was from the cyst and so did my doctor and we thought that the pain would go away but it stayed. My doc recently had another ct-scan and ultrasound done which came back normal and has referred me to a physio therapist as he thought I may have strained a muscle in my back (I have had lower back pain - only left side since early April too). The physio said that I did strain a muscle in the back and have given me light exercises to do. I couldn't do some of the exercises as I had too much pain on my left side (ovary area). I went

I went to the physio again yesterday and told him that it was too painful to do some of these exercises and he felt around the area on my left side where I have the pain and after I nearly jumped through the roof from pain as he pushed and rubbed, he says that it looks like I have strained my groin muscle. I would be happy if this was my diagnoses, except my normal doctor is referring me to a gyno - seeing him in early August because my doctor thinks I might have endometriosis. He and another doctor at the practice that I go to say that I have a lot of the symptoms pointing towards endometriosis.

My question basically is... could groin muscle pain be confused with the endometriosis or the other way around? Do you have similar symptoms of a strained groin muscle, like painful intercourse, painful periods, irregular periods etc? And also, should I still go see the gyno even if the physio and my doctor thinks it's just a strained groin muscle??

Yes, you should still see the gynecologist to rule out endometriosis (which this sounds like what it is) as a possibility.

Endometriosis can cause pain to go and refer to the groin area. When this happens the pain can irritate the nerves in that area.

Also, some women can have as their very first symptom related to endo that of thinking it's a pulled muscle when it's not. This is exactly what happened to me during the Spring of 1997 even though I had already had some problems with the exam being painful to the point of jumping off the table the way you did when the PT touched the area. What made my situation so strange when it came to the symptoms was that my mom and I were living with friends for a while when this happened. We were in our room watching tv. I was leaned up against the wall and when I started to try to move I felt this really strange pain. And because of that pain I thought that I had pulled a muscle. So I tried to lie on my bed thinking that would improve things and it did not. It was worse.

Then a bit later that afternoon when I went to get up from the bed I felt my uterus and ovaries fall forward. When I told a few drs about this symptom they laughed at me which basically meant that they thought I was crazy.

Well, the pain that I had in part because of that and it staying all the rest of the month (with the exception of the week before my period, and then have my period come and the pain issues start all over again). It stayed this way for 9 months. What was even worse is that for most of that 9 months the pain was so bad that I was bedridden. I also discovered that not only could I not lie on my side still (had a problem with this for years before I knew I had endo) but I discovered that whenever I tried to scratch my toes on my left foot my uterus hurt. So I pretty much could not even scratch my toes.

It took me several drs to find one that could help me (and did so with the help of a friend who is a surgical technologist). Then when she and another dr got involved in the case and took me to surgery (yep, laparoscopy an outpatient procedure is the only definitive way to diagnose endometriosis) they found out I had endometriosis.

But yes, please see the gynecologist any way. Also, my problem with the pain a good part of it settled around my left side too, and causing pain of ovulation (even when I wasn't supposed to yet) occurring at other times during the month and many times very sharp when it came to intensity of pain.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis 10 years ago when i was 17. It started with pain and irregular bleeding for me. My gyno suspected it right away and monitired me for 6 months. Then he said the only way to diagnose was visually with an operation. I had that done and have had endo ever since. The pain you described is right for endo, along with painful intercourse and irregular periods. It also affects my bowel, because i have deposits of endo all through me. Best thing you can do is go to your gyno and tell them you are concerned it could be endo and demand that further invetigations be done. If you do have it, it can be lasered off and there are treatments available. Just because they dont work for everyone doesnt mean they wont work for you.

Good luck

These symptoms certainly sound like endometriosis. I believe you will get a real answer from the gynecologist. I had endometriosis and was in constant pain. I went from doctor to doctor for about two years until I found one who understood what was going on with me. Then I had a hysterectomy at the age of 25. I never suffered the same pain afterwards.

You really need to read "Endometriosis Bible & Violet Protocol" by Zoe Brown (also available in electronic format here: http://www.endometriosisbible.info ). It's about how to eradicate endometriosis disease forever. It worked for me, you will see results in only a matter of weeks. Good Luck!
