OK, so your asking me this simple question and you expect a simple answer. There has got to be more to life than analysing 1 + 1.
If I were a scientist I may say 1 + 1 = 2.0
If I were a mathematician I may say 1 + 1 = 2 and you cannot add any decimal places to imply an accuracy in the answer which is not reflected in the source data.
If I were an economist then 1 + 1 = 3.450921 because that is how we all get richer through wierd economic principles.
If I were a banker then 1 + 1 = 1.95 because I would have to charge you for my services.
And if I were a lawyer .......
what do you want the answer to be ?
Have a nice day.

The simple answer would be 1 + 1 = 2.
Looking at it a different way the answer could be 11 (1 and 1 gives you 11 [but 1 add 1 gives you 2]).
The answer could also be 'window'. How? Imagine '1 + 1 =' to be made of matchsticks. Then rearrange the matchsticks to form the shape of a window so it looks like a '+' within a square.
The answer could be 2 or 11 expressed differently such as (2^3)/4 or 121/11 which give you 2 and 11 respectively.

1+1 looks on the outside like a math problem initially, but I have thought about this problem in some depth. The answer could be 1, 11, or a math problem (if I was answering the question literally). However, the question itself suggests that the asker is either developmentally delayed and needs serious help in the area of mathematics or that the asker is simply asking a question to see just how many people answer such a simplistic question like the one posed.
