they are the only dsl provider in my area (i live in new york)and i personally think they overprice their service cuz they are the only provider in my area. I need to know if 50 kb/sec download 20 kb/sec upload for 40$ a month is a reasonable price for that speed. And if not, what speed should i be getting for 40$ a month and what should i do about it.
and cable isnt avaible in my area, and i wouldnt get it n e way ive heard bad things about it. what should i do??!?! complain to them or what?
and i did complain to them before one time, and they came over and checked it out and saying i was actually gettin FASTER than what other people r getting

does anyone have an idea i what should i do about this? should i complain to them or something? can i run some legal law suit.

WOW, $40 a month for a measly 50kb/sec download ???? You're getting ROBBED. Get a Cable connection, DSL is slower than cable in general. Don't know what things you heard about cable but it's most likely wrong. I paid around $45 for a 8000 kbps ( 8 Megabit per second = that's roughly 160 times faster than what you're getting ) download and 512 kbps upload on my cable connection. You need to complain to your provider or get a cable connection instead.

The speeds you are quoting are dialup speeds. If you are paying 40 a month and there is absolutly nothing wrong with your equipment and you have no other options then get rid of your dsl service and purchase dial up for 10 a month and get roughly the same speeds and save 30 dollars a month until you have saved enough money to move to another town.

Unplug all devices and cables from your DSL modem.
Wait 90 seconds, plug everything back in.

This should solve your problem temporarily, but you will have to do it again in a few days to a week.

I was having these types of problems also. I believe that there is a capacitance buildup in the line. Unplugging the DSL modem made my speeds faster.

Keep doing this until your cable Internet access is installed.
Then unplug the DSL modem and cancel your service.

At speakeasy.net, I tested right now at 7542kbps down and 2408kbps up.

I have comcast cable with the high speed upgrade.

if that is all you can get in your area, then there is nothing you can do.
well maybe one thing..see if Verizon or Cingular have 3g (EVD) in your area and you can get a mobile broadband service. even the older 2.5G (RTT) networks run at 144kb. However your latency will go up depending on your distance to the tower, especially since you are utilitizing a cell based technology..

plus if you have mobile broadband and a laptop..you can use it anywhere w/o needing to hunt for hotspots etc..
so until you get a comcast or charter in your neighborhood..or someone else can offer you DSL you are kinda hosed..

FWIW...Verizon mobile broadband unlimited is 60.00 a month..

however my cable is 50.00 a month for 8m down 1m up..so yah 40.00 is a bit overprice for 50/20

but they are the only player in town..and if more people dont ***** then nothing will be done about it..
