You will most likely have to redo the 7th grade. Sad for you that you didn't go to summer school. If you had gone to summer school they would have to pass you to the 8th grade as long as you went everyday and tried to do the work.
It is possible that you can take an exam in order to get passed along to the 8th grade, not all states have this though. Go to the school and ask. If they have this exam, study for it and try to pass it.
It is not the end of the world to redo a grade. Many times people do better the second time around. They are more mature and the stress is reduced because the person is actually at the best school level for them. I would look at this as a blessing. One thing, if you like sports, you will be a little bit older in the 9th grade than the rest of the group. This also may mean that you are stronger and you will do better in sports!!
If the school work is still hard for you next year--whether you are in 7th or 8th grade, ask to be tested for Special Education or for Title 1 courses. Here you will get the help you need.
Try to do the best you can in life. YOU determine your own destiny. It really is the first day of the rest of your life.Good luck.

I'm a middle school teacher and sorry, the answer is the school can retain you regardless of your parents' opinion. After reading your question, I would strongly suggest you learn from this experience before things begin to snowball. I've been involved in A TON of retention meetings, and the student is never held back because of various opinions/ reasons. They offered you Summer School, and you didn't show up.It seems you didn't believe they would follow through. Well, it's happened. For your sake, please find a book to read this summer and think about how you will improve the rest of your life. Regardless of the school's decision (and I am not saying they are right), you made choices to get there in the first place. If you would like some book recommendations, feel free to contact me.

I got held back in 6th grade.
I wasn't scared it wasn't a big deal except everone made fun of me, and then I got to kick some butts although I was still much smaller than them punkass 7th graders.
So it is up to you how you want to think of it.
Don't be nervous, what the heck will it matter once you gratuate a year late. Big deal.

What are you nervous about? Do you think you are ready for eighth grade with your spelling errors and not having gone to summer school? If your school reeks, maybe get tested to see where you will be placed in a hopefully good private school.

Certainly, you must not give up! Go to the school, summer, if you have to, but do go, and complete your schooling: no problem, really, failing now and then, the problem is if you don't try again! Don't be afraid to fall, be brave and get up again! All the best!

No, it isn't up to your parents. They could possibly home school you or something, but if not you'll have to repeat the 7th grade
Why didn't you go to summer school? Or better yet, why didn't your parent's MAKE you go to summer school?

No... I'm pretty sure it's up to the school if you go to the 8th or not, b/c you have to meet certain requirements...your parents can't over-rule the school in situations like this...

Well, it is either several weeks of summer school, or a whole additional year of it. It is your decision.
