As James Bond said in the most recent version of the movie 'Casino Royale': "Does it look like I give a damn?".... truth be told, I don't like my Martini either way... to me a great Martini is a quality gin from the freezer, pour into a frosted Martini glass, with maybe a twist of lemon... that means the essential oil from the lemon rind twisted over the glass, and the globules just floating on top, not the lemon peel in the glass.... not that I would refuse a Martini any other way... even made with vodka, and a misting of dry vermouth from an atomizer.

maximum martinis (vodka martinis besides) are served shaken in spite of in case you ask for them that way or not. This chills the drink and cuts the vodka and is seen the right thank you to coach one. So no, the bartender might in all danger not spit in Mr. Bond's drink.

[Bond orders a drink]
Bond: Dry Martini.
Barman: Oui, monsieur.
Bond: Wait... three measures of Gordon's; one of vodka; half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it over ice, and add a thin slice of lemon peel.
Barman: Yes, sir.
Bond: Vodka Martini.
Bartender: Shaken or stirred?
Bond: Do I look like I give a damn?
