So why do people from the south of the boarder get up set about this? American is the #1 economy in the world if we were like Mexico or some of the other Latin economies then ya I guess you would have to call us The United States Of America every time (ya I know some people say this but honestly it very rare and only when it formal... like history books). So stop getting up set south of the boarder. Funny I never hear Canadians get up set about this. Eh get me another beer eh

you canadians, you alright I did think you get upset about about this. Funny... se that thing is that we have "America" in out title so people just shorten it up.

I grew up in the northwest and never heard a Canadian complain about this.

What people fail to notice is that our nation has the word "America" in its official title: The United States of America. That's why we call ourselves "American".

It would be kind of stupid to call ourselves a United Stateisan, or a US'ian. It doesn't fit with our language. So, Americans we are. We have the right to name ourselves; just because they didn't think of it first is not our fault.

As for Mexico, they should fix the corruption in their country first before getting offended over something as stupid as being called "American".

Actually I know quite a few Canadians who get upset. They do say they are North Americans also since they are. Mexicans are North Americans also.

Think of if this way in Europe a person can be German or French can still call themselves European. Some people think this should be applied to the Americas.

American can also be used to describe all of the Americas. You know North America, Central America South America.

I'm in the Pacific Northwest (Bellevue) and I know quite a few Canadians. I've had this conversation before with them, they do consider themselves North Americans.

yeah you know Canadians don't get upset either. they don't go around saying oh, I'm North American!. They proudly say that they are Canadian. Mexico should learn that too. They aren't AMERICANS, they weren't born in America the country, they live on the continent of North America, but they aren't North American.

Those who object to our country being called America, should go sit at a border crossing and listen to what Americans call our country. The States, USA. The US, US of America, States that are United, and many other names. Just Honor our land the flag and what we all stand for.
