You have to tap it on the side while flicking the switch up & down really fast, while at the same time a partner holds the little transformer up with a stick inside the grill-thingy.

shut off what? for a computer or any electrical appliances, just turn off the power supply. for a book close it up. for a windows, press the red button with a white cross.
but u can never shut off a boring teacher.
