I think guns should be illegal. In general, without guns, people won't die so much. I'm not gonna go into specifics, but crimes and mortality based on gun shootings will be less since it will be very hard to get them since they are illegal. Some say people kill people, not guns. However, I think if guns was less accessible from people, people won't kill people so much with guns.Also, England does it, or that's what my dad said.

Please, don't post hate answers, call my dad retarded, or any biased crap. Say your views on whether guns should be illegal or not, what's wrong with my theories, and how we can improve as society about guns.

Some of you create really weird instances that would rarely happen.

By the way, people having guns at home, you might be right.

Also, if gun was less accessible, amateur criminals might not get a hold of them.

So,what you're saying is that making guns illegal will improve nothing to crimes committed.
Think about it, mass murderers weren't insane all the time. one day, they bought a gun and started shooting up a place.
Remember Columbine and Virginia Tech? Those kids wouldn't have been able to kill so many with guns. Yes, they would found other ways like a bombs or something.

Maybe, if the rules and laws abiding guns were more strict, it could work. I said it COULD, not would.
Remember, I'm not blaming the inanimate object. I'm just worried about the object being easily reached by wrong people.
Also, Time magazine wrote even though we have sensors in school to alarm us if a student has a gun, then what? It will be too late as he will just start shooting.

You guys wrote that if normal citizens aren't allowed to have gun, then the criminals will kill us. Okay, most criminals are amateurs and don't really know underground black market.
If not gun, should other weapons be restricted?

This is really such a second amendment question. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Classes=infringement
registration=infringement
permits=infringement

The purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to provide the citizens with the means to overthrow an unjust government. It is the final step of the federal checks and balances system. This is a fundamental protection to ensure our government does not resort to tyranny.

If you tell me you want to take away my gun then I'll know it's time to use it.

Guns Shouldn't Be Made Illegal Because This Can Backfire (no pun intended). Thugs Will Just Have Another Underground Criminal Business To Run Like They Do With Illegal Drugs.........Thus Creating Greater Violence....
Making Guns Illegal Does Not Guarantee A Lower Crime Rate.

The Process For Manufacturing And Distributing Guns Should Be Much Stricter As Well As The Procedure For Acquiring And Licensing All Guns............

I'm not sure it would work here. You have to think about the enforceability of the law. England is a small island country. We have enormous coastlines and two ill-protected land borders with other nations. If you make guns illegal, people will sneak them into the country like crazy and it will be an extremely costly law to enforce. If there were a practical way to do it, I would like to see such a law, but as things are now, I don't think it would work.

If we could wave a magic wand and make guns disappear, we could reduce certain kinds of crimes. Say good-bye to drive-by shootings! Yay! Unfortunately, there are all kinds of other ways to commit violent acts. Instead of drive-by shootings, we might see people filling liquor bottles with gasoline and using a rag as a fuse and tossing those out of car windows. Are you going to outlaw bottles, gasoline, and matches?

We have to look at the root causes of violence in this country and in the rest of the world and address those causes. Otherwise outlawing weapons won't have much effect because as long as there is a demand for something, someone (whether legally or illegally) will find a way to produce a supply and make a profit from it.

It would be nice if they weren't so easily accessible. But then you have a problem with weapons that are already out there in the hands of criminals that could possibly be stock piling them. No matter what the law says criminals always find away. But we also have a right to bare arms, so unless there is a system to go thru to prove your intentions for having a weapon like hunting, or to protect your family it's almost impossible to say what would work to prevent senseless crimes that involve guns.

Your dad has bought into the myth that European countries have lower violent crime rates than the US. Only Spain has a lower crime rate than the US. There may well be lower gun crime but you chances of a violent death are higher in the UK and dead is dead.

In the US, states with the lowest crime rates also have the highest gun ownership.

Surveys of incarcerated criminals show that they do not fear the Police, their biggest fear is that their potential victims might be armed. As an ex cop myself I can tell you that we usually show up after the crime has been committed, too late to protect you.

The old axiom that guns do not kill people, people kill people is a verifiable fact.

Please read More Guns, Less Crime by John Lott. He does away with the emotionalism of the subject and uses verifiable data to back up his facts. Something his naysayers cannot claim.

You and your dad have right to your own opinion...as I have right to mine... I don't offer 'hate' response to your question just because we don't agree totally..

I have owned guns since I was old enough to roam the
woodlands alone...my guns have never threatened anyone
and certainly never hurt anyone...Notice I did not say they
will never, because I don't know that! I will protect myself
and my family and if it takes a gun to do it, I don't choose to be without my gun. We live in a dangerous world.

Also, I like to take the evening off sometimes and go to the shooting range and shoot a few targets to keep my guns
in good working order...then I bring my guns home, dismantle
them and clean the parts and reassemble and then put them back in the lock up gun cabinet. (I am a veteran and was
properly trained in the use and care of guns).

God forbid the day guns are outlawed for in that day guns
will only be owned by outlaws and law abiding citizens like
you and me will be at the mercy of these outlaws. 'Nuff Said".

At least you are thinking and asking questions at your age, that is the first step to making your own decisions. Very good.
As people get older they fear what they don't know. You should take a firearms training class. Maybe find a relative or friend who is well trained to teach you. After you understand the firearm and what skills it takes to use one you will understand better why we have to have our firearms. My son and daughter who are a little younger than you (Probably) have handled firearms with supervision since they could hold them. They understand and respect them. I use mine for hunting, but also have them for self protection and protection of my family. You need to see how hard it is to hit a target. The movies are just not realistic. Please remember that even trained police officers miss all the time. So guns are not evil it's the people that use them that can be. Good look on your search for your own answer.

criminals are going to get guns anyway, and if not guns , knives,, and if not knives--- "I don't know what the next war will be fought with , but; I know what the last war will be fought with! sticks and stones." A.Einstein.
Man is always , with his intellect, inventing better machines for every application-- even for killing,and; there will always be the insane few who will use any machine for perverse purposes..
Answer me this: If every man in the first class that pervert at VT walked into to do his murderings had had a fast draw and a good aim with his side arm that he was wielding, would he have gotten off his first shot?
And, here is a really good thing to meditate upon: You and your 16 yr old daughter are in a deserted parking lot. Three healthy horny monsters with knives walk up with rape and murder on their mind. Which does your daughter want you to do first--- draw your cell phone and dial 911, or, draw your 9mm and dust those bastards?

I think your theory has its merits. There are studies that prove the presence of a weapon increases aggression. However, there are also studies that shows people who are from an area where everyone has and will use a firearm tend to be more courteous and patient (since you do not want to risk offending someone who may very well shoot because he/she feels insulted).

Since it is in the U.S. constitution that its citizens have the right to bear arms, I do not think illegalizing guns will be the solution. I rather agree with my boyfriend's theory: make everyone carry firearms. It may sound crazy but it has its merits too: a robber would think twice before robbing someone if he/she knew everyone present has a gun and know how to use it, don't you think? The only flaw to this theory would be accidental deaths that would result in mishandling a firearm. To remedy that, everyone should be educated in handling firearms properly.

I personally think Canada's gun policies works quite well. All gun owners must go through a government approved training course before they can purchase any firearms. And all firearms must be registered.

(Slightly off topic) Just keep in mind that these theories only apply to law abiding citizens, criminals will not be bound by laws. No matter what law is implemented to restrict firearms, criminals always seem to find a way to bypass it.

If you make guns illegal, only the criminals will have them. Guns don't kill people, people do. I use guns to shoot holes in paper. I also have a legal carry permit to have one to protect myself, others, or property.
Want to really do some damage, get a bottle of gas and a rag, light it and throw. One at each exit and no one would get out.
Safety first.
