If video killed the radio star, American Idol crushed the soul of music alltogether. Its now just a fashion parade and dance contest. Nirvana was real music. Like it or not, at least it had passion.

(p.s. - music is NOT visual art and never will be, people are just confusing the two)

Wow, you totally read my mind. I've been thinkin' the same thing. The greats from the 70s and even the 60s have been smothered by this new modern crap today. All this alternative and heavy metal stuff has lost the real talent to become a real musician. The guys in the 70s, like Page and Hendrix and all those legends, had raw talent to do the stuff they did. Modern music is a joke. It's basically computer-generated sounds and requires no musical ability whatsoever. Nice question, man.

I've been wondering the same thing, mtv was created and they now basically control the music fads around the country, bands these days are more popular because they have connections, not because of raw talent...i hate that. lots of the good rock and roll bands came from england, the rolling stones, the who, the Beatles, eric clapton, etc. there are hardly any bands these days that fall under the category of rock AND ROLL, they now classify themselves under rock and their idea of rock is not even close to the rock of the 60s or 70s. but the idea is that they have also taken the roll away from rock and roll.

It goes through cycles. I mean, look what happened to disco. Eventually, new music came about that captured people's interests.

MTV was created, which made music into a visual art, and Nirvana killed all that was good in music.
