I plan to get more fish when I get home. What kind of fish do you reccomend? Also naming them, too? Would guppies be bad? I heard that the mothers eat their babies. Is this true?

If you go to Petsmart, they have fish grouped according to type - such as tropical, semi-aggressive, community, etc. Any fish that are the same type can live in the same tank. If they're schooling fish, I'd recommend getting at least 2-3 of that type to help them live longer. Also, Petsmart labels have "beginner", "intermediate", and "advanced" notes on the fish types to help you determine what fish would be best for you.

Naming is up to you. =)

As for guppies, some fish eat their offspring if the tank is overcrowded or they are otherwise stressed. If you plan on breeding fish (you may just want to get all male or all female, or just one of each), you may want to get a separate tank for the pregnant females to lessen their stress and the potential that they will eat their young.

Guppies are good but they breed like crazy! They may eat their babies, but they should be okay. Pick a theme. What is your favorite movie or book? Take characters from that and name your fish after them...

I had guppies as my first fish. They were really good. Later I switched to African Chiclids... and they are very aggressive. I recommend guppies, or other small tropical fish. As for names, my favorite name that I've used is Aztec.

Guppies are really easy fish. My guppies are fed well, so they aren't bothered about babies and they are so used to them. I have a baby half-black (called tailbite)which bullied others bigger than him and ruined their tails so he now have a spare 10gal all to himself.
