If your tank is big enough you might be ok, if it doesn't work out just make sure the place you buy it from will let you take it back. I have a tank full of "incompatible" fish and they all do great, never fight they all even sleep in the same cave, I think it really depends on the personality of the betta, one might try to eat everyone another might be the sweetest fish in there.

Assuming you mean a male betta, they attack fish that aren't smaller than they are or are more colorful/flashy than them.

The betta will not attack the tetras, as tetras are a common tank companion fish for bettas (I had them as well), but it may attack the gouramis depending on how big and colorful they are. I'd suggest observing their interactions if you decide to add a betta and keeping a back-up tank just in case.

The Bettas will fight with the Gouramis because (as you know) they are related. Bettas attack fish with long fins, and the Gouramis have just that, so it would be a very violent tank. If you want more fish, get 3 Corry Cats for a cleanup crew. Don't get Algae Eaters or Plecos, they get huge and quite aggressive...

No they shouldnt do but you probably just need to watch the gourami and betta. Mine were fine together but you never no.

And nosoop4u what are you on about?? Gourami have short fins!! And cory cats dont eat algae, they are bottom feeders, but dont eat algae.

Plecos are very gentle peaceful animals and wont hurt any other fish in your tank.

Please ignore nosoop4u's comment .
