This is a more interesting question that some might think. The question is, should Ichiro get credit for his performance in Japan?

There aren't many parallels to the situation ... yet. How many baseball players have performed well in their own country for several years, and then come to America and played well? In other words, a player would have to be judged for his complete career. The last time that really happened in a sense was for the players in the ***** Leagues, some of whom made the successful jump to the Majors post-Jackie Robinson.

Jumping to other sports -- football has taken Warren Moon, who had several great years in Canada before coming down to the U.S. Basketball's hall has taken many different nationalities, indicating a different approach. Hockey has voted in some international players, but not a ton of them.

My guess is that Ichiro makes it if he stays a few more years and continues to play at close to this level. But I can't wait to hear the debate.

He will likely be a first ballot HOFer...

He's 34 right now, and shows no signs of slowing down. All Star every year, Mulitple Gold Gloves, on his way to his 7th straight 200 hit season (200 hits every year of his career)... and the guy never misses a game. He only sits out 2 or 3 games a year.

He's just shy of 1,500 hits right now (1,482)... the way he plays, he'll easily wind up with 2,500 , and could even get to 3,000 if he plays at a high level into his 40s...that's a very big "if", but he's not shown any signs of slowing down yet, and he loves the game.

If a player played 20 years and accumulated the awards and accomplishments of Ichiro (seven 200 hit seaons, seven time all star, etc), that would be one thing... but Ichiro is obviously going to add several more all star appearances and a lot of base hits to his current totals... once you get to 8, 9, 10 or more all star games, you've just about got the HOF made... I'm not sure what player (other than Pete Rose) played in the most all star games without being in the HOF, but Ichiro will get to the HOF easily...

definite. Ichiro has a blended comprehensive of over 3,000 hits between Japan and the MLB. He additionally has the checklist for many hits in one season. he's a hall of Famer little question. and that i think of Ken Griffey Jr. gets inducted as a Mariner and not as a purple.

I'm pretty sure he will be. Definetly if you count his Japanese Stats which I'm not too sure that they will.
He changes the game.

If he retired now, no. I suspect he will have at least five more all-star caliber years to come so after that I would say yes.
