just got it from a japanese electronic store. i already installed an english version of Windows XP. but it still cannot connect to the internet. it says, "no local connection".. but actually my old desktop had connection. what will i configure? system, modem or the cpu itself?

I got two questions for you,
During windows installation you must have seen a screen where they ask you about Internet right?
The other one is, if you had desktop connected then you probably have ADSL adopter right?
What did you do when you were installing windows that you should think. Which radio button you had clicked did you remember? if every thing was installed perfectly then due to the ADSL adopter which already have connection should work perfectly.
As your question has insufficient information therefore it is not easy to diagnose problem.
