Why is it that Americans believe they are the greatest nation that ever existed and their way of life should be imposed on everyone else. Why are they so self indulgent? Your own fart does smell sweeter than everybody else's? Your politicians, your president, farts equally foul than most politicians and presidents all over the world.

I am not American, obviously. When were men ever stoned for adultery? A little black humor... I am sure people in France, Germany, The United Kingdom, Spain, Brazil, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Italy, to name a few, rather live there than in the United States. There are plenty of countries were people live rather comfortably, and none of them spend money, efforts and lives on destroying foreing nations to secure cheap oil. I respect a country's right to self defense. I do not aprove legalizing murder for commercial gain. I am sure the Amercian people want to believe they were decieved by their President. They were decieved by Congress. Nobody is thick enough to believe over educated, well payed senators can be misled without their consent.

OOOH .. lol I think you may have recieved far less hostile replies if you had been a TAD more tactful ...
Many of the americans I know on line .. are proud to be american and in a way there is an underlining *feel* that they do indeed think they live in the world's best nation ...BUT .. I think they are entitled to their opinions...JUST as we are to ours .. It's when SOME OTHER americans try and ram it down our throats that we get cheesed off and lose our ability to be tactful.....
American is a powerful nation .. BUT as for being the best nation to have ever existed ... I honestly don't think so ... ( NO OFFENSE INTENED THIS IS JUST MY OPINION) .. BUT like all great powers .. one day the USA will decline ( again no offense , just study history and it's pretty clear that great powers always decline) some other place/people will take the place.....
They are self indulgent because they need to be ... they need to believe in themselves ... just as we all do .. It's just they do it more *loudly* than we do ....or at least we THINK SO ,
Most americans I know are decent people,
and as for farts , well we all drop them don't we :)

Americans believe that they are the greatest nation that ever existed because the United States is the greatest nation that has ever existed. Don't know where you get the idea that the United States tries to impose their way of life on everyone else. The USA is working to spread freedom across the world so people can live how they want to live.

We were given the title of "Watchdog of the World." by a summit of world leaders...look it up! We as Americans assumed the title. The very nature of our way of life threatens the beliefs of some other cultures. The media further exploits this. The American Military does what is told to them, to protect the American way of life a... Democracy. The belief that everyone is entitled to choose what they want.
As for if my flatuence smells sweeter than everyone else's...it in fact does thats my brand and if you dont like it leave. Your comment about the President, that is why they are allowed only two, four year terms in office. It prevents a monarchy or a dictatorship.
Do you have a better idea? Please voice it, but on the other hand if you don't stop whining. The people who complain the most do the least for anyone else because they are only worried about their needs!

I would not say its an American goal to impose values on the rest of the world specifically, but an indirect result of the West being more wealthy than the rest of the world. You are not going to follow the values of societies that are barbaric and have little development. It does not matter if the United States is aggressive in the world or not, Western values are going to have a certain level of dominance because of their success.
For example, has Middle Eastern values made people prosperous? No. Those who are wealthy in the Middle East have accepted at least partially Western ways of doing business or even Western cultural norms.
Simply everyone wants to be the best even if they do not admit it. As long as the United States is the most powerful nation in the world, people are going to want to follow its model, etc...

It would seem less ignorant to at least generalize a bit more and ask why "the West" imposes its view and culture on the rest of the world - just a suggestion. The answer is, of course that neither it nor America does. That a country voluntarily embraces western views and/or values is a reflection on what interests and appeals to the people of that country (for example, nobody is holding a gun to the thousands of people in Lima each day who visit the many McDonald's restaurants in the city).
I suspect you are simply acting out over some type of national insecurity, especially since you seem to be basing your remarks on what appears to be your expertise on flatulence.

Well first your question probably would be better suited for politicians and the media who have controll over the tube and put words in our mouths.
What I'd like to know from you are you living here in American because if you are then you have no right to criticize how we feel or think as we should not criticize the way your country wants to live but if you come here from another country you need to get in line I mean be American or go home. If you are American then ???

Good question based on factual observations.
The general demeanour of a person from the US of A is one of arrogance, conceited, bogus and feeling of superiority over and above every one else and everything, including international law.
This can be attributed to an education system that is insular, antiquated and bias toward the US of A and its depraved ethics and values.
And before any one cares to challenge my explanation look at your president he is a product of the US education system. You cannot deny this fact. The majority of you people of the US are all extremely critical of your President Bush, and rightly so. You thereby accept the fact that your education system is the root cause of this endemic arrogance, self-adulating, conceited, despised persona you all possess!
Look in the mirror!

Please don't get the American People confused with the American Government and American corporations.
The reason the American Government forces "views", is that it is a whitewash to force other governments into debt by using U.S. corporations to build hydro electric damns and other public projects that bankrupt foreign nations. That puts those nations into a situation where they can't refuse the U.S. when they want to put a military base there or start a war for an American corporation (United Fruit Company, anyone?)
In Iraq, Bush said he want to build a democracy there so it will spread throughout the middle east. What most Americans fail to realize it that Kuwait has been a democracy since 1963 and Israel since 1948. Has it spread? NO. Fact is, American oil supplies have been in decline since 1973, and the U.S. Government wanted Iraq's oil. That's why Bush invaded Iraq.
But don't hate the American People. Only 29 percent still support Bush. According to most polls, most of us want green energy, universal health care, the reinstatement of Tariffs to protect our jobs. There are many cities in the U.S. that are adopting the Kyoto Protocols, despite the federal governments lack of response on global warming. We realize we are near the bottom of the heap of industrialized nations in Health Care, Productivity, Pay, and Education. Most all of us respect other cultures. Really.

It seems to me that everyone who loves their country, whether it's the U.S. or France, thinks it's the greatest nation that has ever existed. It's only natural. I agree that we should not try to impose democracy on countries that do not wish it or ask for it. That is indeed the height of arrogance.
But as far as our culture goes, we export it because other countries ask for it, crave it, and try to replicate it. We didn't force countries like Japan and France to allow the openings of McDonalds and Burger Kings in their countries. We don't force our fashions or our trends on other people around the world. If there weren't a market for it, we'd have to keep it to ourselves wouldn't we? You are trying to blame us for other country's desire for our culture. Do you ever ask the people who replicate our culture in other countries why they do so? Do they have free will to reject our cultural influence? Of course they do.
