I copied this answer from another question that I answered
I thought the questions were somewhat similar.

WHY DO WE LIE?

>It is in our human nature to do so, we lie to deceive , we lie to appease our problems.
>The purpose of the lie is to make unknown that which is true we choose to remain in darkness
>Lies crave attention because they wish to be believed. The people who concuct the lie wish for it to become a reality as the people being lied to aren't able to tell of its deceit.
>The truth is important. We owe it to our loved ones to tell it whether it is painful or subtle. Lies only lead to more lies. The truth will eventually come most of the time its arrival will be more unwanted than it was before. There is no escaping the truth.
>We can not deny that we have not or never again will lie as our judgement can be easily overidden leading to made up claims and ever more heart breaks. Although the truth is relevant we can't stop the lies especially not through other people. It is okay to lie as it is undoubtedly going to come.
Like all of our attributes it is a part of us we must learn to take it in moderation but we can not banish it from our lives.

We chose to believe that people will believe our lies but most of the time lies are predictable and in your instincts you can sometimes tell when someone is deceiving you because of the tell-tell signs.Sometimes we choose to accept lies as we want them to be true

Why does the truth hurt? Because the consequences
might not be desirable. Can the consequences of
lies hurt? I think so. In my opinion, truth probably requires
more effort than the lie in terms of accommodative work,
but the sustenance of a fabrication also requires effort.

That depends on the truth you want to lie about, if someone wants your opinion about their looks, and you say they are pretty and their not, that is an unnecessary lie, you can say you would look better with this hairstyle or something along those lines. If they want to know if someone is talking about them, send them to the source, I can't think of a time when the truth wouldn't be a better option, just use tact.

No. You try to present the truth without judgment and in the same manner you'd want to receive it. If you lie, usually the truth will eventually be revealed and your credibility will be lost and no ones feeling are spared.

The longer we don't know the truth, the more it hurts when we finally find out. And in most situations, the person will eventually figure out your lying. Being honest but not brutal is the best, and it's tough finding that balance.

The truth hurts because people are not prepared to hear it. We should prepare people FOR the truth before the get hit with it.

Some times " Ignorance is Bliss " I'm with you on this one. To much honesty can be very hurt full to sensitive, inexperienced, & people with little to no self esteem. I wouldn't let any one get hurt by lying to to where a person could be embarred by on lookers. Words can destroy the mild & weak.

I'm not so sure about that.

If it protects them from harm I could agree, but when someone is hurting themselves or others and just doesn't see it the truth is a good thing.

NO! It's always better to tell the truth in the first place. No one really wants to be lied to.
