I used to think that, but I came home tonight to 8 best answers from 8 different people.... and I am part of no clique...
I think while some may play that game, most of us pick B/A by what tickles our fancy at that particular moment...

I have so far only posted two questions, and picked those who were best. So I have not much experience on that.
There must be cliques where ever more than 2 people come together, so why not here! But how do we know what other people think and what their reasons are (when picking the best answers)? We speculate and speculate and that makes US sad, not the people whose actions we mull over. I have done my fare share of this and try to learn an other way of looking at things.
I have noticed now that I have started contacting people - after couple of weeks more active visiting here - that yes, the answers and questions appear on my profile page, and yes! that leaves me less time to look at other questions. But I won't start guessing how they pick their best answers...
In the "real" world we at least see people, how they act, their faces, hear the little nuances in their speech. Here we only have avatars and written word...save yourself, don't speculate! ; ) I hope you still can enjoy Yahoo answers! : )

Only in the last week or so...I don't pay much attention to the I.D.s, I just answer the question (if I can), and star the ones I can't but am really intersted in hearing the answer myself, you know? And then, suddenly, I get lured by the opening, and when I click on the question, there's all this "additional detail". (eyewash; it's chat!) Usually I just move on 'cause it feels like a "freezing out" kind of thing. Obviously I don't "get" the "real" question. It kinda sucks. Is it the kids? 'Cause it sure feels "high school"...? Usually it's not about the B/A; it's about participating/contributing; but these few....

I don't know about cliques, but it does seem to be gender biased. I've only received 1 BA from another guy. Then again, I prefer to answer Qs from gals, so I'm biased :-o).

Yup, it's like that sometimes because they usually give it to someone in their contacts list OR they give it to someone they're fond of. I give best answers out accordingly, it doesn't matter who it is, as long as I like the answer. If I get too many good answers, I'll put it in voting.
