The article below speaks of Iraqis helping the US and not being able to move here legally. I have asked before, why can't the US move these people to the front of the line of immigration? I can think of two reasons, rewarding good deeds to those who deserve to leave if they choose and moving them out of the country that we destroyed with huge civilian casualties ( not all by US, but a direct response by the insurgents because of our presence).

I believe the political refugee status is meant for such people - but it's not an easy status to acquire (for one thing, it's often claimed by people who don't deserve it, which bogs the system down). So, I guess the answer is that our immigration system is overwhelmed, and that makes it hard to process legitimate requests for asylum.

Our invasion and the subsiquent sectarian violence have created 5 Million Refugees so far. Among those are about one million Iraqi Christians who, caught between Sunni and Shiite have fled. We have taken what was a bad situation under Sadaam and turned it into a catastrophe.

The Pope tried to discuss the fate of these people with Bush but to no avail.
