In good weather, daylight, not a lot of traffic on the freeway, my speed is usually the posted upper speed limit plus 5 (e.g. if the speed limit is 65, I am doing 70)
I subtract from that 5 mph if
* traffic is heavy but not jam clogged
* I see a cop car
* I am approaching an interchange (because I know speed traps often close to them, and traffic density can change radiclally there)
I cut that speed by 1/3
* if the road is wet
* it is night time and the lighting sucks
I get off the road with my hazard lights flashing
* if there is fog
Driving in winter time is a whole other algorithm

WOW! Really? You drive that fast on the freeway?? Good grief, that's really fast, man. For me, I put safety first. So, I usually drive w/n the speed limit or not to exceed 5 miles over the posted speed limit. Also, I really can't afford an accident or a speeding/reckless driving ticket from the friendly state trooper. But, to answer your question, it depends upon what state the freeway is located. For example, in Oregon, on I-5, the speed limit is 65 mph--so I usually set my cruise control @ 68 or 70 mph max speed. In Georgia, on I-20, the speed limit is 70 mph, so, I drive between 72 and 75 mph. Where do you drive 85 mph on the freeway? Aren't you concerned about your safety as well as for those who may be riding with you or for the safety of your fellow motorists?

5 miles over the speed limit whatever that is! Better safe than sorry. Of course, my old Toyota doesn't do well over 80 so if the speed limit is that or higher, 80 is about my max!

I usually go about 75-85 either in a car or on my motorcycle.
I do tend to go faster on the bike, but it's mostly to get away from tractor trailers and SUV's.

considering I got a speeding ticket friday that I was going 19 miles over the speed limit, I would say I usually am speeding at least 15 miles over

80-90 average but at certain times I go well into triple digits if I have a reason.
Please slow people, learn to merge at at least 70mph, which is what the police recommend.

speed kills. what are you in such a hurry for anyway. if you get pulled over it will take you longer then if would have by doing the speed limit.
