Not really, because I know what it means, and because I speak French sometimes so it doesn't seem unusual.

(it means major epileptic seizure, and comes from the French words "grand" (large), and "mal" (bad))

There are two kinds of epileptic seizures: grand mal and petit mal. The first is the most serious kind. The expressions are French and mean "great evil" and "small evil." I can't understand why you would think such a serious illness is funny!

Not in the least. As I have a medical background, it suggests to me grand mal seizure, which is in no way amusing!
