They [funeral line] definitely should have escorts as the drivers are completely entitled to keep on driving. However, the drivers don't really have a choice; it's totally rude to just drive through a funeral procession.
I agree with you, the funeral procession should definitely have sirens/alarms/escorts/etc when running a red light. It'd make things much more convenient for drivers; imagine what would happen if one of them had an urgent matter at hand and couldn't afford to be delayed?

When a funeral procession is in route, and the lead car, (hearst) makes the green light, all the other cars in the procession are allowed to follow the cars through whatever color the light it is. They should however always have the head lights on, and have a flag attached to there car. If someone in your family or friends died, I am sure you would want to remain together, so you could be at church, or the cemetary together. Always respect the dead, and there family

Without a police escort to clear traffic safely, it is nuts, and illegal, to run the lights.
As for "respect"--if you are approaching the intersection after the hearse has passed, how can you tell that car number 7, say a 1995 Toyota Corolla, is part of a funeral procession that is unescorted, unmarked and unlit?
I'm sure the driver would rather be disrespected than hit broadside.

Without escorts or flags, they should obey all traffic laws.

I think they also allow it so people don't need to find the cemetery by themselves. This way they won't lose the group during their time of grief.
