how can i get my desktop back on line its an old gateway with no ethernet connections ...please help my kids will use this puter....

You have several choices depending on what ports you have available on the old machine.
If you have a USB port, you can purchase an ethernet adapter...it plugs in to the USB port and you can plug the ethernet cable from the router in to the adapter.
If you don't have a USB port, you may be able to replace your current modem card with an ethernet card OR you can add a wireless card to your desktop and connect wirelessly. This is a bit more complex than the adapter but the owner's manual for the computer will probably explain it step by step. If you don't have the manual, you may be able to download a copy from the Gateway support site.

If the desktop has usb ports you can get a USb wireless key for it.
