Where has the deeper philosophy of the bygone eras gone? The modern Philosophy seems to be nothing more than the glorification of self and the make of self worth more than anybody else.

So where has the deeper philosophy gone?

Serious answers only.

Thanks.

I think this at least partly is a case of positive bias. The deep philosophy of the bygone eras is simply all the philosophy that survived from that time. People in ancient times were much less educated than today (well that's a scary thought!) and probably produced a lot of st00pid, "Jack Handey" philosophy which simply never got passed down to us like the best works did.

Also, the fleeting, transitory nature of the net makes writing long, deep philosophical tracts difficult. In a CNN world, most of us just don't have the time to peruse someone's manifesto, regardless of how good it may be.

And yes, there are just a whole lot of shallow thinkers out there who wouldn't know a rational argument if it bit them in the cerebellum.

Tha plan for the World is progressing pushing deep philosphy aside. In the old days, we needed it to progress knowledge and truth but nowadays the plans have to have results scientifically and technologically for our past to have been worth living. We are now progressing to scientific advancements and technological genius which was provided by are philosophical ancestors long ago in Ancient Greece, Europe and the East as well. We have to let philosophy go for a while to let the technical boom reign and later it will cycle again. The plans of this World are happening and coming true to the God out there. If you want deeper insights, you can go to my website www.philosophyoflife.net. It goes on a bit but the essence of deep philosophy is there. Take a look if you want.

Well, I don't know what you mean by deeper philosophy, but the philosophy of the bygone eras, which was riddled with obscure language and pipe-dream metaphysics (see Aristotle's "Metaphysics", or Leibniz's "Monadology" for example) has been superseded by analytic philosphy. To wit, I know of no egotistical analytic philosopher. All are motivated my a sincere desire to know something "real". They cut through obscurities with logic, and thorough analysis of the language used. To many, analytic philosophy takes away from the "traditional" philosophy's "meaning of life" feeling, but this criticism really isn't fair. Asking the meaning of life is either asking the unanswerable, or asking nonsense.

Deep philosophy is redundant , first is just too difficult to understand the concept for the ones that need the information , Deep philosophy is OK for the other deep philosopher , but the philosophy at stake just stays there ," big deal !!'
but if philosophy is explained in layman's way is better for all .

Contemporary philosophy is like contemporary anything--simple, shallow, and surface. There are some good things going on in academia though--Mark Kingwell is a really interesting theorist I also think that philosophy comes under different headings now, different specializations, like philosophers of culture, philosophers of history....so much branching out has weakened the tree, in my opinion.

In my opinion it is implied that anyone worth listening to has 5 degrees and 20 letters behind their name. When some of the true philosophers of our time that aren't looking to get recognized or get paid to actually think deeper than the surface. It's all about face and money.
In the past great philosophers risked their lives, reputations and their lively hood to have their thoughts expressed. Nobody wants to risk anything. They just want to gain.

The deep thinking philosophers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle are a thing of the past. Modern technology has made people soft, and brain cells have turned into mush!

Descartes was able to "think, therefore I am" only because he did not posses information overload.

Today's philosophers are from the "me generation" and therefore are self glorified.

Let's get back to basics - turn off the televisions and computers and get back to ones self and know our own minds. Don't let media devises tell you how or what to think.

I am new to this philosophy stuff, and I love it. I have no idea what deeper philosophy is! The problem probably is that the younger generation, me, has no idea what is really deep.

E-mail me and teach me. I am young enough to learn.

It is out there. It has mostly gone academic. People, in general, don't have time for philosophy except as a coping mechanism.
