I know what he expression means. To "take under advisement" means careful consideration. However, I do not know what the process means in court. Does this mean he is going to consider the issue on his own?........or.........Does it mean he is going to get advise from other Judges?......or Does it mean he will seek advise from higher courts?

My husband and I just got out of court today on a Custody Mofication case in Missouri where the mother allowed a 16 yr old to marry. Prior to filing the modification case, my husband had Joint Legal Custody which requires the mother to at least inform the father prior to making any decisions that affect the "health, welfare, or education of the child". The father was not informed of the marriage until the day after (9 days after the mother signed the marriage licence). We asked the courts to find the mother in contempt of court for not informing the father. The Judge was questiong whether he has Legal Standing or not. He stated he agreed the father had reason to file the modification, and agreed the mother should have informed, but was not sure he could find her in contempt since the child was emancipated. We argued she was in contempt prior to the emancipation and therefore she should be found in contempt. He stated he was going to "take the case under advisement."

It means the judge is not issuing a ruling immediately.

Instead, the judge is going to consider the matter, read the legal briefs filed by the parties, have the clerk do some research on the legal issues, and then eventually come to a conclusion.

"Under advisement" is the formal way of saying he'll get back to you.

It definitely means he will consider it on his own and research the law if necessary. He might talk with other judges but this is the exception rather than the rule. It does not mean he is conferring with a higher court.

Nothing special, no consultation involved, it just means she'll consider it. Often it's code for "stop talking about that, i got it."

No it means you told him, he knows. He'll keep it n mind in case he needs to rule on it later during your trial, motion or other hearing.
