1. Passports are only needed for traveling when leaving or entering countries.
2. A Passport, OR a State Issued ID Card or Drivers License is needed for all travel with any airlines within the USA.
3. If the child does not have any of the above, then the kid needs to bring their Social Security Card, and anything with their picture and name like a School ID Card. They will be checked out a little by the TSA (airport security) before boarding, but it should not be any problems since its a child.

Legally No and Yes, If you want to stay ahead of the power curve I would suggest it. It is not necessary, but some form of I'D is for her age bracket on all domestic flights you may want to take your child on a cruise or a drive up the Great Lakes to Canada in the future.
Bottom line a passport is always a good Idea because it is a legal federal document recognized not only in all the federal states and its territories but worldwide. Now days a State I'D is quicker out in the suburbs. I also forgot to mention it will be a thing of dignity and pride for her because not all citizens can get a passport. This business claims a 24 hour turn around.

No to passport. That is only if you are leaving the country.
Most airlines do not require an id (drivers liscence) until they are about 15. But check with the specific airline. If they have a school id, this would be fine. Birth certificate also ok, which makes no sense since it is not a photo id.

I had the same problem... "Passports and IDs It’s not as easy to cross the border as it once was. Today’s passport laws have changed and make travel to other countries more complicated. Passport requirements have changed. Beginning in 2005, the U.S. government introduced a new policy called the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, which changed passport requirements for U.S. travelers booking flights to Canada, Mexico, Panama, Bermuda, and many Caribbean countries. Today, a passport is required for all U.S. citizens traveling outside of the United States. For domestic air travel (within the United States), all adult passengers must present some form of government-issued photo identification. A valid driver’s license or passport will work. For international air travel, all passengers (including children) must have a valid passport".

You don't need a passport when you fly within the US, but you do need I.D.. Most people use their Driver's License, so I would say that your 14 year old might need some other form of ID. I would call your airline for detail.

She needs to have a photo ID. Usually a school ID and a copy of her birth certificate will do. go to www.tsa.gov and look it up. You only need a passport if you're leaving the country.

No she doesn't...Because you are flying across the country. She would only need a passport if she was flying outside the country. She would maybe need a picture and her birth certificate.

unthinkable in the us. however, now that i think about it, the dang terrorists threat may change all that if they keep it up. all they will accomplish is to make the us a tight fortress the likes of which only existed in the soviet union when stalin was in his prime.
no, a passport is not needed today. just a safe flight and a wave good bye. and pray the terrorists are not aboard. god bless the children. god bless us all.
