That depends on how you define a computer.
Some say that the first computer was developed by a postal worker during WWII and used to help break the codes of the Enigma Machine. I believe is was a large machine that was vacuum powered.
Old time player pianos are also related to computers. Their programs were stored on paper rolls with holes punched in them. The holes are the equivilant of binary data.
I took a computer course in high school in the early 70's and our programs were saved on tiny paper tapes with punch holes just like a piano roll. The modem was a giant accoustic modem that you'd have to set the handset of one of those old fashioned black telephones into it. If you whistled, it'd screw up the connection.
Computers have been around a long time in some form or another.

im not so sure...but i think it was bill gates thats why hes the richest person on earth right now, but im not sure if he invented the computer or was it only microsoft...
