My husband rides a motorcycle in a state that doesn't require helmets. He says people who don't wear them are great organ donors for those that do. I don't think it should be a law to wear a seatbelt, or a helmet. I think it is a very smart decision to use any and all protection present, and I always wear my seatbelt and when on the back of my husbands bike, a helmet. As long as humans have choice they can choose stupidity over safety. The more people make the wrong choice the better safety options become for you. Thank the stupid. They might just save your life one day!

I don't think that should be a law (seat belt requirement for adults), but the reasoning behind it is at least two-fold.
1. No matter the size of the car people survive at a significantly higher rate when wearing seat belts.
2. Most accident deaths are by ejection from the car which seat belt most often prevent. The size of the vehicle has anothing to do with ejection.
As to motorcycles, no states allow anyone under 18 to ride w/o a helmet that I know of. Some do allow those over 18 to do so. The motor cycle lobby is big enough in D.C. that congress wont outlaw in the forseable future.

Because lawmakers are stupid. They are catering to the motorcycle lobby. The claim is that helmets do not provide much extra protection. Regardless, when they crash and the rider(s) come out a vegetable, it is the tax payer who gets stuck with the continuing medical bill after the insurance runs out. I say if they are operating the thing on a public road, helmet use should be mandatory throughout the United States. Why do you think they're called "donorcycles" in hospital emergency rooms?

In a car, if you are involved in an accident,it normally involves another vehicle. You can screw up and cost someone else their life. We have to keep you alive and preferably healthy so you can pay for your accident and their pain.. In a motorcycle, even if you are in an accident with another vehicle, you will be the one getting hurt or killed. Not them. 9 times out of 10, it is the fault of someone pulling out on the motorcycle. People don't pay attention to motorcycles. What is stupid, some people that drive cars are the same way with 18 wheelers.

Because America for some reason has a need to protect people from themselves. If we stayed out of peoples business like wearing helmets and seatbelts, there would be fewer people to protect. The people who have made the laws are also the same ones who put warning on things like plastic bags (do not cover face) I blame it all on the lady who won umpteen amounts of money from McDonalds because her coffee was hot.

Yes I do unless I can't because something is blocking the seat belt or I'm in a automobile that does not have seat belts. Like buses for example.

It is just another ploy by the libs to control you. Our big pushers for seat belts were orthopedic surgeons. Corpses didn't need to have any bones set.

it is pretty indefensible.
i have always contended that if i wanted to mount a sword on my steering wheel and point it at my heart, so that the slightest fender bender kills me, that it is my right as no one else is affected.
