because people are clouded by politics and can't see beyond democrat and republican.
"We have seen promising indicators since the President announced the new strategy in January. While al Qaeda and other extremists have conducted a counter-surge resulting in numerous horrific mass-casualty terrorist attacks, and while it is too early to declare the surge a success or failure, we have seen:
- A substantial drop in sectarian murders in Baghdad since January
- Arms caches found at more than three times the rate of a year ago
- Tribal sheiks in Anbar and other provinces cooperating with Iraqi and American forces against al Qaeda
- Attacks in Anbar at a two-year low
- Total car bombings and suicide attacks down in May and June
- The building of “joint security stations,” where many Iraqis are coming with information on where terrorists are hiding
- Signs of normalcy in Baghdad like professional soccer leagues, amusement parks, and vibrant markets.
- Recruiting for Iraqi police forces drawing thousands of candidates
- Young Sunnis signing up for the army and police
- More Shia rejecting militias"

I have friends that have died in Iraq, I work with people who have come back from multiple tours in Iraq, and all I have to say is , for what? you can not help a group of people who are not willing to help themselves. At some point we will leave, and what are we leaving behind? Is Iraq a better plan now? There are so many questions left unanswered, and so much hatred drawn to the war there that is expected that people don't want a slow victory... especially if you have loved ones there. I

War should be the very last resort--Fact is, we thought it would be easy, fact is, we invaded a country based on a lie, fact is, we took out the wrong guy (not to say Saddam was a saint) first---we started a war without an exit strategy and now we find ourselves in the middle of total chaos with no graceful way to leave, so we go on hoping something will happen to justify our presence there.
Our invasion of Iraq opened a web of evil and now it's a Civil War and must be solved by those involved...This war is not worth losing another American soldier............

You mean like Vietnam right?
A slow victory would be if we were slowly moving FORWARD, not BACKWARD. I know a country's government cannot be toppled and reestablished in a month but when you can't get rid of the government after five years then I see no progress and lose hope and conviction in the in the reason why it should keep going, and like someone said most civilians and ordinary people want the U.S. forces out of there, they don't want our "help" so why insist on sacrificing our boys when those people don't appreciate it?

Because your congress wants to turn and run. Just so the can bring down Bush. That will be a victory for Liberals. But a HUGE defeat to America. Far worse than Vietnam because there will be so much more to come.

I see that very clearly.
Things take time, ordinary people do not understand 1% of the logistics of something this huge!
Like me, you my friend will sit back and slowly watch the events unfold knowing that in the end slow but sure is the way.

Why do people not see that? Because it's not true.
The US was soundly defeated in Iraq a long time ago. Right now, it's just prolonging the agony of defeat.
