You have to have HCG to detect pregnancy, and that doesn't happen until the egg implants in your uterus, which can take bewteen 6-12 days after ovulation. Once it does a blood test would pick it up rigth away, but a urine test would take another day or 2, even if you use the really sensitive ones. Also, remember that sperm can live for 5 days, so you could have sex one day, and get pregnant 5 days later from it.

i would suggest the day you period is late or a few days after. though test say they can test 5 days before missed period the accuracy is 30% and every womens levels are different and it may not detect it. I took a test 5 days and 3 days before my missed period and both came back negative. However the day after my missed period I took the third test in the box and it has positive.

You can tell as early as 5 days before you period is due with the new early pregnant tests.
