As always, we should be alert to unusual and suspicious activities, especially in places where a lot of people are gathered.
(I recall that after 9/11, some parents were reluctant to let their kids go trick-or-treat for Halloween. To me, this would not be a good opportunity for terrorists, since the merry-makers were spread fairly evenly in all populated areas. The terrorists want a crowded target area.)
Although it looks as if the governmental agencies have improved greatly in detecting and preventing attacks, I'm afraid we are not much more ready to deal with the aftermath of an actual attack.
The main thing is to be alert but not frightened, and to act as needed if the time comes. Remember, if an attack takes place, government agencies may not be able to help right away; citizens have to take the initiative.

We cannot prepare any more then we have.
How does a guy answer the question; "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?"
It is impossible to answer it without it coming out wrong. The same is with preparing for a terrorist attack; the best we can do is prepare and be watchful. What you are ignoring are the attacks of last year that didn’t happen. The plan to smuggle liquid explosives aboard airplanes and the Canadian hatched plot were both penetrated by the FBI, Canadian, and British services that they were known about for a year.
We have people actively working to prevent such attacks, but they can’t be perfect. They have to catch every terrorist that they can, but the terrorists only have to succeed once. The latest attack in London and Glasgow should tell you a lot. The people who planed the attacks failed. The explosives in London never blew up because the people didn’t know how to make the bombs properly. They had to ram an explosive laden SUV at Glasgow just to make it work and they didn’t do any real damage, the fire was put out so fast that one of the terrorists survived.
This plot was so bad because the group was so small and didn’t know what they were doing. If they had the proper contacts, if they had a proper bomb maker and visited bomb making schools then the local security services would have picked up on it.
Plus you are forgetting the war in Iraq. Why spend all the time and take all the risk to go to the US when you can drive across the Iranian border pick up your supplies and explode a truck bomb in Iraq? It is so much easier to do it there that the terrorists don’t need to go to Europe or the US. That’s why most of the plots are homegrown ones, not professional ones set up by those in the Middle East.
We are prepared as best we can be for a future attack, and we are doing what we can. In some cases we are doing too much like those illegal signal intercepts that the Bush Administration is responsible for.
If we were doing too much more to stop terrorists then your question would be about the toleration state that we are living in. There is a limit to what we can do, and the quote was not that we are going to have an attack, not even that there are any signs of an attack, but simply that the director of homeland security had a feeling that we would have an attack.
I can’t say you worry too much, because your question and fear is a valid one. But, I can say that in this case keep your worry limited. We all have fears that we must face each day and the new one of terrorism is just one of them.
As for the Democrats stopping their war with the Republicans, that is mostly driven by the election and it will not end until after that.

Bwana is sturdy, polls are meaningless this early. yet Obama could desire to actual beat Romney, Palin and Gingrich. they are all heavily incorrect as presidential applicants, and none of them are going to be nominated, probable none of them will additionally run. you are able to desire to do a poll of Obama vs Bozo the Clown, and if Obama gained that poll it does not propose a element, could it? The Republicans are going to tug somebody out of a hat, a sparkling sparkling face, somebody you by no ability observed in the previous. possibly an imprecise congressman, possibly a governor of a crimson state. somebody with no longer lots historic previous. social gathering leaders will p.c.. him, provide him a great buildup on Fox, and line up each and every of the money at the back of him. From that ingredient on, the networks will manage him like the presumptive winner and manage all the different Republican applicants as minor additionally-rans. The primaries would be no greater suitable than a rubber stamp. that's how GW Bush have been given nominated, and additionally bill Clinton (it is not purely the Republicans that do this). Obama's acceptance numbers will upward thrust. Like him or no longer, this is purely inevitable. The Republicans are concentrated on obstruction and opposition, and that may not going to serve them nicely. they could income a seat or 2 in 2010, the social gathering out of potential continuously does in a midterm election, and that they're going to make a great deal of that and say this is because of the fact the electorate are unwell of Obama. yet I doubt they're going to income administration of the two abode of Congress. At this ingredient if i became having a gamble i could guess Obama gets a 2nd term.

Unfortunately, 'they' are always saying that a major attack is right around the corner and they've been saying it for so long that I don't think people pay much attention to it anymore. My attitude is that whatever happens will happen and we will simply have to deal with what comes the best way we can. To live in fear is like having emotional cancer.
I think that the American people are strong enough to face whatever is thrown at us. We might appear to be weak to others, but - when we are tested - we prove differently. I have faith in us.

The dems are to busy rasing money for next years elections.
I'm glad Bush is smart enough to realize that if we don't wipe the terrorist out over there we'll end up fighting them here.
I think the dems. have figured out the American people are
too smart to be fooled by the liberal press and know Bush is
doing everything in his power to keep this nation safe.

There's better chance you'll be struck by meteorite than getting hurt in al Qaida terror attack. Don't show al Qaida your too scared to go about your daily routines. I sure don't want to be bullied by bunch of goat humping idiots in Afghan mountain somewhere. Be vigilant, but don't be paranoid about it.

Yes, but they don't understand that. It's time to stop being distracted by "global warming" and dumb concerts.
To think that that man was actually vice president and that you liberals almost elected him to the Oval Office. You all belong in mental hospitals right along side him in adjacent beds.

You are young. in a few more years you will realize that business interests run this country. And Bush and his GOP buddies have put us on a path to destruction. A more evil group ever existed...except the Nazis.
