It is a cultural thing and really has nothing to do with Islam. I have read my Quran front to back and nowhere does it say I should be circumsized. On a side note, I have talked to muslimahs in countries that do practice it, (not the female genital mutilation which involves removing the entire clitoris and sometimes sewing up part of the vagina). These women only had a tiny portion of the skin on the clitoris removed, kind of like how men have the foreskin removed. They said it is nothing like the mutilation and it does not prevent them in any way from attaining orgasm. In fact a couple of them said it was better after they had experianced it both ways. I'm not condoning it and I would certainly never have it done or have it done on any daughter I may have in the future. But it is right to know the difference.

Clitoris Removal

2016-10-05 02:02:28 · answer #3 · answered by delevik 4 · 0 0

It is to stop premarital sex!
It is a brutal sick tradition that the Politically Correct nutters try to play down because it IS a Muslim tradition, ( and we don't want to upset the Muslims)!
It was announced in Egypt, Muslims are advised that female circumcision is an option not an absolute law!
Why?
Because it is rife in Egypt!
In Africa the Muslims cut the clitoris off with a rusty lid from a tin can, by a "elder".
In Britain it is still practised by Harley Street ,(Muslim), physicians.
There is a wealth of stories of this ritual on the net, (if you look), and it is not only the clitoris that is removed, they also cut off the labia, inner lips, and sew the rest until only a small opening is left.
This leads to infections when menstruating, and had lead to the death of a young woman, who on her wedding night, was ripped open with a knife, so her husband could have sex with her????????
Sorry about the long answer, but this topic is sick, and it is about time SOMEONE came to the aid of these poor people!

RE:
Why do some muslims remove the clitoris of their young girls.?
Is this a common action of the " People of the past" or is it an old custom that has lost its function.

It was on Yahoo.com news doesn't anyone ever read it?
anyway it is a continueing problem in the UK. there is 500 I don't know a week or a month. But they fear there is 66000 about to be done this summer. So it is still practiced by a large percentage of the human population.
It is to keep a women from enjoying sex and or wanting sex.
So she can concentrate on pleaseing her husband.
that was said from a mulims youtube web site by a cleric as what he thought was a good reason.

They do not remove the clitoris but actually remove the skin fold covering the clitoris. This is called female circumcision and is it very dangerous and illegal in most countries today. However unfortunately it is still practiced in some places.

From what I've read, it's a means of control. If a woman gets no pleasure from sex then there is less of a chance of them straying or being unfaithful. In a society, where keeping offspring alive is very difficult (more food and such), it's quite important for a man to know the children he provides for are of his ilk. It is still being practices all over the world in cultures such as Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. You can read more about it here: http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/health-info/docs/2400/2428.asp?index=9146.

I read about this in anthropology but it wasn't muslim specific. It was more continent of Africa related. There were a few ideas

-It had been a tradition for some time and people had just continued the tradition
- It was done to prevent some of the pleasure of intercourse to prevent /reduce promiscuity

I am not sure if they specifically claimed one instance was more valid than the other.

This practice occurs in many countries in Africa, including Christians in countries like Ethiopia. It is not just Muslims, but it occurs mostly in countries that have been strongly influenced by Islam. A very high premium is placed on virginity and this is one method to assure that a girl is a virgin. In many western countries, immigrant girls who grew up with these notions insist on being sewed up again after having a baby or an abortion.

sadly it is still done today-its an action of control and power feeling that if a women is never satisfied then she wont cheat on her huband, ironically though its common place for them to have multiple lovers through marriage-its so very painful and degrading-it is a sin to grossly remove a body part in the barbaric way that they do
